First things first, what is rooting? This is the process by which users get access to adminstative permissions, commands and functions of a device's operating system. Here's wikipedia's defiinition.
Different android devices are rooted using different procedures and softwares some of which are easy to follow and others that need some technical knowledge. it should be clear to everyone that rooting voids your device which calls for some questioning should one really root their device but the good thing is you can still unroot your device and get the warranty back.
According to me, it makes more sense to root your device than not to all because it come with more benefits than its disadvantages. I have done extensive research and compiled most of the benefits of rooting your device and here goes my list.
Unistall bloatware
bloatware are the applications that come pre-installed in your android device. Apparently there are many more apps in the play store that will perform a task better than the one pre-installed this means you will need to uninstall it and replace it with another to save memory.
Once rooted, there are applications out there that can be used to uninstall bloatware like Root Unistaller and Android Mate.
Acess to Only Root Apps
Android Play Store is flooded with more than 7000000 apps that strictly require root. one of these and a very important one is Link2SD which helps you get away the problem of insufficient memory on android devices by completely moving apps installed both on your sdcard and phones internal memory to a pre-created .ext partition on your sdcard. You can read on how to use it on this post. The list is endless and you can read on some of the best root apps here.
Customs ROMs
Custom ROMs are ROMs made by developers who are not in either way connected to the device manufacturer or Google most common being cynagenmod.
this also includes getting OS updates for your specific device even months before they hit the stores with some additional features.
Wi-Fi Hotspot
hotspot or wireless tethering in some android devices is by default disabled by the manufacturer. However, with rooting, you can use hotspot apps that are only root from the market like Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether.
Backup your apps
With Titanium backup, you can backup all your apps to avoid having to download it again from play store after uninstall. Also, after flashing a custom ROM, you will a easy go getting back your apps.
Boost battery life
Android battery life sucks, thats something everyone hates about android devices. Good news is that after you root your device, apps like battery doctor will do the magic to save your battery by terminating the apps eating up your battery.
Tweak processor
Each android device processor is set operate at a certain speed and frequencies. One may however want to increase the processor so as to play some games smoothly and generally make the OS run swiftly and this is called overclocking. It's apps like SetCPU and CPU Tuner that let do this. It be should be noted that increasing the speeds will make the device work at higher temperatures which may melt down the CPU hence damage the phone. Take care when doing this
