Forgotten Android Pattern Lock: How To Reset/Unlock Pattern Without Internet Access

Due to security measures in android, when you enter the wrong pattern too many times, the phone locks. The situation worsens if you were not connected to the internet before all that but the good news is you don't have to worry because there are solutions to that.

You only have two options left to get your phone back to normal condition.

First Option

  1. Download this zip file here and save it in your sdcard. Please remember where you've saved it.
  2. Enter into recovery mode by pressing and hold the Volume up button + the power for sometime until the phone displays a screen with four or five options depending on phone that are scroll-able using the volume buttons (Please confirm the exact procedure for entering recovery mode for your phone but that's it for most phones).
  3. Scroll to the 'wipe the cache partition' option and press the power button to select.
  4. Now select 'install zip from sdcard' and navigate to where you'd previously saved the zip file on your sdcard and select apply zip file.
  5. Reboot. You're done!

This method will reset only the unlock pattern and everything in your phone will remain as before including settings and installed apps.

Second Option
This method involves performing a factory reset to your phone meaning you'll lose all the third party apps installed in your phone.

  • Enter recovery mode.
  • Now select wipe data/factory reset option. This takes a while.
  • When done, select reboot system now. Done!

Tecno are constantly releasing Android based devices and it's awesome. Ruuning on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a 4 Inch screen, Tecno n7 is one of their latest realeses. If you own a Tecno N7 and want to root it, I am just gonna help you do exactly that. Read about the benefits of rooting an android device.
WARNING: Rooting voids warranty!

Procedure

2. Download SRSRoot from this link and install it on your computer.
3. USB Debugging must be enabled so on your Tecno N7, Go to settings... Then Developer Options and tick USB Debugging.
4. Now connect the device to your computer using a USB cable and run SRSRoot.
5. Click on "Root Device[All Method]". Rooting should begin. Make sure to follow all those onscreen instructions.
Done. Simple as that.
Incase you ever think of unrooting the device, just click "Unroot Device" and your warranty is back.

Rooting Android: Benefits/ Advantages Of Rooting Your Device

First things first, what is rooting? This is the process by which users get access to adminstative permissions, commands and functions of a device's operating system. Here's wikipedia's defiinition.

Different android devices are rooted using different procedures and softwares some of which are easy to follow and others that need some technical knowledge. it should be clear to everyone that rooting voids your device which calls for some questioning should one really root their device but the good thing is you can still unroot your device and get the warranty back.

According to me, it makes more sense to root your device than not to all because it come with more benefits than its disadvantages. I have done extensive research and compiled most of the benefits of rooting your device and here goes my list.

Unistall bloatware
bloatware are the applications that come pre-installed in your android device. Apparently there are many more apps in the play store that will perform a task better than the one pre-installed this means you will need to uninstall it and replace it with another to save memory.

Once rooted, there are applications out there that can be used to uninstall bloatware like Root Unistaller and Android Mate.

Acess to Only Root Apps
Android Play Store is flooded with more than 7000000 apps that strictly require root. one of these and a very important one is Link2SD which helps you get away the problem of insufficient memory on android devices by completely moving apps installed both on your sdcard and phones internal memory to a pre-created .ext partition on your sdcard. You can read on how to use it on this post. The list is endless and you can read on some of the best root apps here.

Customs ROMs
Custom ROMs are ROMs made by developers who are not in either way connected to the device manufacturer or Google most common being cynagenmod.
this also includes getting OS updates for your specific device even months before they hit the stores with some additional features.

Wi-Fi Hotspot
hotspot or wireless tethering in some android devices is by default disabled by the manufacturer. However, with rooting, you can use hotspot apps that are only root from the market like Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether.

Backup your apps
With Titanium backup, you can backup all your apps to avoid having to download it again from play store after uninstall. Also, after flashing a custom ROM, you will a easy go getting back your apps.

Boost battery life
Android battery life sucks, thats something everyone hates about android devices. Good news is that after you root your device, apps like battery doctor will do the magic to save your battery by terminating the apps eating up your battery.

Tweak processor
Each android device processor is set operate at a certain speed and frequencies. One may however want to increase the processor so as to play some games smoothly and generally make the OS run swiftly and this is called overclocking. It's apps like SetCPU and CPU Tuner that let do this. It be should be noted that increasing the speeds will make the device work at higher temperatures which may melt down the CPU hence damage the phone. Take care when doing this

Want root your device right now? Here are some posts covering the same depending on your devive.
1. Quickly root Tecno N3, N3S and T3
2. Root any android device with Superoneclick
3. Easily root Samsung Galaxy S 4G
4. Root for Huawei Ascend y100 U8185

Next from Microsoft is Windows 8.1 (previously known as Windows Blue) which is an update to Windows 8 and will be launched during Microsoft Build developer conference in San Francisco which will kick off on 26th June.
The update will be free to download and is said to take about 4GB of disk space but the good news is after installing, the size will be relatively that Windows 8 thanks to compression and removal of temporary system files. The preview will be available sometime this month probably before 26th for everyone to download although it is rumored that currently only select Microsoft testers are able to download it from the Store.
Something for Windows 7 users ; you guys will have to install Windows 8 first so as to upgrade to Windows 8.1 since the preview will be available only for Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Display Desktop Version Of Websites With Android Stock Browser (ICS or Gingerbread)

All Android browsers display  the mobile version of websites by default. For whatever reason though, one might want to load the desktop version of whatever website and this is achieved by changing the UAString of your stock web browser. It's a simple trick that unhides some hidden settings so you can change the browser's UAString. Here's how:
1. Type "about:debug" in the address bar then go to address or hit Enter. It'll seem as if nothing's happened, something's actually happened. That's how you unhide the hidden settings.
2. Press your device's menu key,go to More, then choose Settings.
3. UAString is located at the bottom so you'll have to scroll down and select it.
4. Change the UAString to Desktop. It's by default set to Android.
5. You're done. Browse as much as you feel like, no limits.
To hide the debug settings, enter "about:debug " in the address bar again and hit Enter. You can later change the UAString  to Android, same procedure!
This trick doesn't work for Chrome, Operamini, Firefox, Dolphin and other browsers.

Top Five (5) Android Web Browsers

Maxthon
With a cloud based service, Maxthon Web browser can sync all your files in the cloud for access using other devices.
Featured with a download manager that supports resuming downloads, reader mode, cloud download, cool add-ons and its ability to be customized and personalized, this is honestly my number one web browser.

Opera Mobile Web Browser
This is practically the best web browser for users who have faster connections. What impresses me more about Opera Mobile Browser is its automated ability to adapt how the user uses the screen like how they interact with the screen. It also has support for flash which means a smooth going with websites that require flash.

Google Play Link

Google Chrome
This one is by Google. It’s actually the stock browser in many Android devices being released lately. Search fast and get sync to your Google account.

Mozilla Firefox
Just like Google’s Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox supports Firefox sync which lets you sync you bookmarks and other data. You don’t even have to worry about which tabs you recently visited, ‘Do Not Track’ and ‘Awesome page’ take care of that. Its easy to use, smooth, fast and easy to customize.

UC Browser
Something very interesting with UC Browser is the way it adapts to different connections and network strengths saving high data costs and at the same time increasing the speed at which pages load by compression. Ain't that cool?

Install Any Android Device USB/ADB (Android Debug Bridge) Drivers With PdaNet

Most android devices don’t come with an official Android Debug Bridge (ADB) drivers installation pack. It is these drivers that are needed to send commands to any android device from a computer and mostly it’s a pain trying to get these drivers installed. Facing such???? Worry not! PdaNet does all that for you. All you need is an android device and a computer.

To get the drivers installed, this is what you have to do.
1. Download PdaNet from the official website here and start installation.
2. Go on with the installation process by pressing ‘Next’, ‘Agree’ and skip the next screen talking about drivers (Don’t plug in your phone yet till it tells you to).
3. If you previously had some drivers installed, PdaNet will query if you want to uninstall them. Allow it to and continue with the driver installation. This will overwrite the previous drivers and install new ones.
4. A screen will pop up asking you to select your phone’s manufacturer, select ‘Others’ if your manufacturer is not listed then click ‘OK’.
5. On the Windows Security warning that appears next, click ‘Install this driver anyway’. Now PdaNet will ask you to connect your device. Do so but be sure to not enable any modes; be it USB Storage or tethering and let the driver installation process complete.
6. Your drivers are now properly configured. Now exit PdaNet from the tray icons to avoid its interruption before trying anything.

Just to confirm if the drivers were correctly installed, go to device manager. Your device MUST be listed as ‘Android ADB Interface’ under ‘Android Phone’. Luck!!!!

How To Use Link2SD: A Comprehensive Guide

Root access is required. As I wrote earlier on my post about the best apps every root user should have, Link2SD is an app that links your apps to the second ext partition of your sdcard.
This means you need to create a second ext partition on your sdcard.
Here's the procedure:
1. The first step is to partition your sdcard so you'll need Mini Tool Partition Wizard Manager. Get it here and install it on your computer. 2. Connect your sd card to the computer either using a card reader or a modem. Both work for me, but don't you use your device USB cable to connect.
3. Backup all your sdcard content before you proceed. Partitioning will delete everything in the sdcard.
4. Start Partition Wizard Manager and locate your sdcard, right click and choose delete. Next, right click on it once more and choose create
New. Choose fat32, this partition is where you'll be storing your files. Make sure to create as a primary partition. Make sure it's bigger than the second partition.
5. Now click on your sdcard again and create an ext partition. Those using stock ROM should choose ext2. Choose create as primary also.
6. Click Apply and let the process complete.
7. When done, copy back your sdcard content that you'd previously backed up.
8. Now put the sdcard back to your phone and switch it on.
9. Download Link2SD from Play Store and install it.
10. Open Link2SD and choose the ext partition you created. Mount script will be created then reboot the phone.
11. Open Link2SD and start linking your apps to your second sdcard partition by touching on the app then choose create link. Make sure you check the three options for each app.
You can enable automatic linking by checking Link2SD settings then choose autolink.
Thank me later!

Six (6) Apps For Any Root User

Titanium Backup
It is a back utility for android that let's you back up both user and system apps on your sdcard together with their data. It also let's you uninstall bloatware or stock apps.
Still, you can perform a scheduled back up with several options. Here's the market link.
Link2SD
This app uses the same idea as the apps2sd feature on android but it's quite different.
You can choose to create a link to all app files or some of them and remove the links as well. Creating a link means to move app files to the 2nd partition on your sdcard ext2.
This leaves you with more memory on your internal storage so you'll never again complain about insufficient memory error message.
You can also launch, uninstall, freeze and unfreeze apps. More description and download here.
Here's a comprehensive guide on how to use it.
SetCPU
A powerful root utility that let's you gain full control of your device CPU which will definitely play a bug part in improving your battery life and performance (Android phones are known for their tendency to drain fast).
Overclocking, underclocking and tweaking voltages is possible on custom ROMs and kernels. You can get it on playstore.
Root Explorer
Works just like any other file explorer only that it lets you get into the system files like /dev, /data, /etc and boot.txt and change them.
It's forreal the best file explorer any root user would ever wanna have. Play Store link.
Quick Boot (Reboot)
Most android phones don't have the reboot feature. Quick boot allows you to reboot, get into recovery boot, bootloader boot with just a touch.
It also has a widget which brings all those functions on your home screen. Get it from Google Play here
AdAway
Ads are really annoying. You wanna get them out of your zone? Try AdAway.

Google Glass: Portable Computing

The Google I/O keynote conference highlighted Google Glass which is ideally a wearable computer in the form of spectacles. This is a cross between a mobile computer and eyeglasses which is capable of recording videos and browsing the internet. It features a camera, display, touch-pad, battery and a microphone all stuffed up in spectacles. See the image below.

The test version of Google Glass looks like a clear pair of eyeglasses with a hefty slab along the right side. It is in this slab where all the computing takes place. The gadget is capable of showing tiny light blinks to let you know when it is recording.

Good still, it has the ability to translate words being spoken to you into your own language on the display although this will obviously need a hefty data plan especially if you’re in a different country. Third party developers are also coming up with cool apps for the gadget with one that lets you identify your friends in crowded places and another that lets you dictate an email already out. Hoping more greater apps come up in the future.

BlackBerry's BBM to launch on Android and iOS

This announcement was made at the BlackBerry Live conference which was held in Orlando.
BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins
announced that BBM which was only available for Blackberry users is now expanding to iOS and Android and it'll be available for download this summer.

This means that BBM will be competing with other messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger, Skype, Whatsapp and other rivals.

The app would need at least iOS 6 for iPhone users and Ice Cream
Sandwich for Android users.
Heins called it a "statement of confidence" stating that BlackBerry is already strong.

This new version will feature the following:
Live BBM chats
Voice note sharing
Multi-person chats
BlackBerry Groups that will let users create groups of up to 30 people.

Later this year, screen sharing, voice and video calls will also be featured for free.
